Sustainability as business opportunity
M.Ortega Sustainability Consulting is a firm that uses the concept of "Sustainability" to discover
new growth opportunities for the private and public sector. It focuses on helping:
- Big and medium companies to create and deploy a sustainability strategy within their organizations
- Non-governmental organizations (NGO‘s) to perceive sustainability opportunities that can lead to
better achievement of goals, like partnering with the private sector

Sustainability, relation with companies and society
Sustainability is a relatively new concept in our society that means "meeting the needs of the current generation
without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". It means that the impact of the society
to the environment is not unlimited; the limit is the ecosystem bio-capacity.
This concept has lead to a society movement in order to improve our "negative environmental impact" .
The private sector is one of the societal players that impact most. Thus, this "sustainability" movement
suggests that the companies should not only focus on the economical benefits (profits) to shareholders,
but the impact of their products and industrial processes into the society and the environment.
The companies must do business in a responsible way. But also the society (community and governments
and NGO‘s) must act in a responsible manner maintaining the ecological equilibrium via consuming and behaving
in a responsible manner.
"Sustainability" is a balance between people - profit - planet (3 P‘s)
Sustainability as growth opportunity
If the private and public sectors work in a proactive way, "Sustainability" can be used as a growth opportunity,
like the multinational companies (MNC) and international NGO‘s are doing at this moment. This is done via creating better
solutions to the market (products, services, development measures) and using innovative business models (i.e development
of energy-efficiency and biodegradable products, other alternatives ways like renting instead of buying).
Besides, most of the important sustainability initiatives cannot be done alone. The involvement
of relevant stakeholders, like government, companies, non-governmental organizations (NGO‘s), foundations and
the society itself is necessary, because they have complementary competences, knowledge and interests which can be beneficial
to enhance approach (synergy).
M. Ortega Sustainability Consulting is focusing on bringing this information to the market and being the link
between these different and relevant stakeholders.
